Should we expand public Charter Schools?
Charter schools are public schools with open enrollment (they employ a lottery if more people apply than they can accommodate) and they are allowed more flexibility from state and district educational codes to allow for experimentation and innovation. Proponents of charter schools feel that they provide school choice, innovation and that they further educational outcomes. Therefore, they want to expand charter schools to give more options to parents/kids and to increase educational outcomes for more people. Opponents of charter schools feel that they drain funds from traditional public schools and that they don't perform better than traditional schools. Some also feel that charter schools only benefit the kids that get into charter schools but they hurt everyone else.
