Is a single payer healthcare plan right for America?
In a single payer healthcare system the government would pay for all the costs of healthcare. This does not necessarily mean that the care would be taken over by the government - it could be a mixture of publicly and privately managed hospitals and doctors. Some countries that employ a Single payer healthcare system are Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Taiwan. Proponents of a single payer healthcare system believe it is more efficient and more equitable. Opponents feel a single payer system would lead to increased costs (through taxes) and potentially decreased quality of service.
