Should standardized tests be used to gauge school performance?
Standardized tests have long been used in the US and other countries to measure the education efficacy of individual students and also to evaluate overall school, state and country educational quality. Proponents see standardized tests as a necessary benchmark to objectively measure student learning. Opponents of standardized tests see them as too rigid and incomplete. They also see them as causing unintended consequences such as pushing schools and teachers to teach to the test rather than focus on deep learning.
