I hardly know any woman who has not suffered some sort of sexual abuse, not just once but several times. We got so used to it, we didn't bring it up, not even to each other. It's time to stop sweeping it under the rug.
It's more common among my friends and family, to find someone who has been sexually abused than not (both men and women). I feel like #metoo does more than just point fingers at attackers, it also brings light to how much we as a society have been ignoring.
Just because men like Donald Trump are trying to make fun of the movement or say it goes too far because they're scared doesn't mean it's gone too far. Reporting and being held accountable for sexual harassment, abuse and assault is never wrong!
“Every time a famous individual continues to be glorified despite allegations of abuse, we wrongly perpetuate silence by showing survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence that there will be no consequences for abuse. That has a cultural effect far beyond one individual artist.”
“[There's] so much pent-up anger and heartbreak and lack of accountability, that I do think it’s understandable it’s coming out in torrents right now.”
